This page is very much a work in progress!

  • 8th century BC the northern kingdom is conquered by Assyria
  • 612 BC fall of Ninevah, capital of Assyria, to Babylon. The southern kingdom of Judah tries to form an alliance with Egypt against Babylon, but this eoesn’t work. Egypt then turns on Judah and installs a puppet king – Jehoiakim.
  • 598 BC Babylon/Nebuchadnezzar lays siege to Jerusalem and puts Zedekiah on the throne as a puppet king. Zedekiah changes sides and aligns with Egypt again.
  • 586 BC Babylon lays siege again, and this time succeeds. This is the end of the southern kingdom of Judah and the beginning of the Exile.
