Teaching & Speaking

Need a speaker for an upcoming event?

Since 2018, I have given numerous presentations, studies, and retreats on the subject of Scripture and the spiritual life both from a Catholic and ecumenical point of view. I would love to work with you to develop something for your group. Contact me today!

Scripture

My primary expertise is Scripture. When I teach the Bible, I bring a diverse background which includes a reverence for the Bible from my Southern Baptist roots, training in exegesis from both Baylor University and Ohio Dominican University, and a solid grounding in interpretation through the lens of a wide variety of commentators, both Catholic and Protestant. I also have an interest in the lectionary, both the Roman Catholic and Revised Common lectionaries.

A recent talk was titled “Entering the World of the Old Testament: Reading Scripture with Ancient Eyes.” You can view those slides here, along with a resource worksheet.

Some of the other scripture-based talks I have given include

  • “A Walk Through Scripture: An Overview of the Bible”
  • “The Biblical Basis of the Sacrament of Reconciliation”
  • “What is Ordinary Time?”
  • “What the Catholic Church Teaches About Scripture: A Study of Dei Verbum
  • A Sermon for the Fourth Sunday of Lent

The Spiritual Life

In addition to scripture, I enjoy speaking about aspects of the spiritual life, especially prayer.

Some of the talks I have given include

  • “Into the Wilderness: A Preparation for Lent”
  • “Hope: An Advent Retreat”
  • “What is Lectio Divina?”
  • “What is Ignatian Spirituality?”
  • “Prayer: Why and How Do We Pray?”
  • “What It Means to be Holy: A Study of Gaudete et Exsultate.”
